Black Friday always falls on the Friday after American Thanksgiving, which is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. That means Black Friday lands in the last week of November every year – right at the start of the Christmas shopping season. Many shops don’t stop at one day, though. The deals are often stretched over the whole week as Black Week, and some shops run campaigns all through November under the name Black Month. The Monday after Black Friday is Cyber Monday, when online shops in particular run extra deals. 💡 **Tip:** Sign up to the shops’ newsletters in good time. You’ll often hear about the deals before they go public – and can grab the popular sizes before they sell out. ### What is Black Friday? Black Friday comes from the US, where the day after Thanksgiving traditionally marks the start of the Christmas shopping season. Shops tempted customers in with big discounts, and over time the day grew into one of the biggest shopping days of the year. Today Black Friday is a firm fixture in Ireland too. Both high-street shops and online stores take part, and the deals cover everything from electronics and clothing to sports and swim gear. ### Why is Black Friday a good opportunity for you? - **Save money on gear you’ll need anyway** – such as goggles and swimwear for the pool all winter long. - **Buy your Christmas presents for less** – swim gear makes an ideal gift for kids and adults who love the water. - **Upgrade to better gear** – the discount lets you choose a better wetsuit or a better pair of goggles for the same price. - **Be ready for next season** – buy gear for open water, SUP or winter swimming now, before prices go back up. ## How to get the best Black Friday buys on swim gear - **Make a wish list in advance** , so you don’t end up impulse-buying something you don’t need. - **Keep an eye on prices in the weeks before** , so you can see whether the discount is genuine. - **Check the size guide** – especially for swimwear and wetsuits, where the fit is crucial. - **Check the returns policy and delivery times** , especially if you’re buying Christmas presents. - **Be quick** – the most popular sizes and models often sell out within the first few hours. ## Frequently asked questions about Black Friday **How long do the Black Friday deals last?** It depends on the shop. Some only run deals on the Friday itself, while many stretch them over the whole of Black Week or even all of November as Black Month. Check each shop so you know when the deals start and finish. **What’s the difference between Black Friday and Cyber Monday?** Black Friday is the Friday after American Thanksgiving and was originally a day of deals in high-street shops. Cyber Monday is the Monday after and was created as a deals day for online shops. Today most shops run deals both online and in store on both days. **Can I exchange a Christmas present bought on Black Friday?** Yes, usually. Many shops extend their returns period in the run-up to Christmas, so presents bought on Black Friday can be exchanged after Christmas Day. Returns policies vary, though, so always check the shop’s terms before you buy. **Which swim gear is most worth buying on Black Friday?** Pricier gear like wetsuits, winter swimming kit and SUP boards usually gives the biggest saving in euro. Goggles, swim caps and swimwear are worth stocking up on now if you’ll be using them during the year anyway. **Are Black Friday deals always genuine?** Not always. Some shops raise their prices in the weeks before Black Friday so the discount looks bigger. So keep an eye on the price of the product you want well in advance – then you can see whether the deal is real. ## Metadata - Type: Post - Author: Daniel - Categories: All guides and recommendations
