But in practical terms, there is a big difference between the three types. They are each designed for very specific uses.  To make the differences completely clear, I have listed the three types below, along with an explanation of their key features and their actual purpose.  **Swimming goggles:** Small, oval-shaped eyewear with a thin strap used for swimming. Even so, it is something you should always double-check—especially if you plan to use them outdoors. UV protection shields your eyes from the sun’s rays, preventing eye damage when swimming outside.  For indoor use, it is less critical. However, it is still great to have if you ever decide to swim outdoors in them.  ### Anti-fog treated Fogged-up goggles are extremely annoying and completely ruin the joy of swimming. That is why all good swimming goggles are treated with an anti-fog coating, ensuring they do not fog up when you put them on.  ### Includes interchangeable nose bridges No two faces are alike. And the same goes for noses. Some are large, others are small, and some are right in between. And most likely, they will also let water in the moment you jump into the pool.  ### Wide field of vision You want to be able to see what is happening around you while swimming. That is why a wide field of vision is essential. High-quality swimming goggles provide a 180-degree field of view (unless they are racing goggles), giving you greater confidence and comfort in the water. ### Durable straps It can be difficult to tell at first glance whether swimming goggles have durable straps. Nonetheless, it is crucial that the straps are sturdy and can withstand regular use and adjustment. It is really frustrating if the straps snap during training or right before you dive in at a competition.  As a rule of thumb, if you stick to buying swimming goggles from major, established brands, you can be sure the straps are of solid quality.  ## Which lens should you choose for your swimming goggles – clear, smoke, mirrored, or blue? Once you have sorted out everything mentioned above, there is just one more factor to consider before pulling out your debit card. The colour of the lenses in your swimming goggles is actually quite important.  I have therefore rounded up the most common lens colours below. In short, less light penetrates through the lens and reaches your eyes. However, since they are not completely dark, they offer a great middle ground between dark and clear lenses. As a result, they make for great all-round goggles that you can use both indoors and outdoors in medium-bright light conditions.  I primarily recommend smoke lenses for indoor use. This means you see everything fairly naturally. On the other hand, the blue tint significantly reduces harsh glare.  If you are going to swim in open water, blue lenses are therefore an advantage. Strong glare typically comes from the sun’s rays reflecting off the water. The blue tint protects your eyes against this, so you don’t get blinded while swimming.  I recommend blue lenses for standard bright conditions where strong glare can occur. This is something you are primarily exposed to when swimming in open water.  ## Our recommendations for prescription swimming goggles All the swimming goggles I have mentioned so far are of the completely traditional kind. And if they do, try putting the goggles on without placing the strap around the back of your head. If the goggles do not stay in place on their own for at least 2–3 seconds, you will need either a narrower or wider nose bridge.  Here, it is simply a matter of experimenting with different sizes. Because the moment the goggles don’t fall off within the first 2–3 seconds, you have found the right size nose bridge.  And when it comes to the head strap, it is important that it is only tightened just enough so that the goggles do not let water in. If you tighten the strap too much, you will quickly feel discomfort, especially at the back of your head and around your eyes. And if the strap is too loose, your goggles will quickly start letting water in.  Again, you should test things out in small steps. Tighten the goggles slightly, jump into the water, and see if any water gets in. If it does, tighten the strap a little more. Continue like this until you reach the exact point where no water gets in.  So in practical terms, first find the right size nose bridge. And after that, you adjust the strap to fit.  ## How to prevent foggy swimming goggles There is nothing more annoying than when your swimming goggles fog up. It makes it practically impossible to see anything. Fortunately, the vast majority of swimming goggles come with an anti-fog coating from the factory. You can do this with an anti-fog spray, which is thankfully very easy to use. That’s why I’m sure you’ll want to take good care of them so they last as long as possible. Below, I’ve gathered my top five tips for extending the lifespan of your newly purchased swimming goggles.  ### 1. Always store them in a goggle case When you’re not using your swimming goggles, keep them in a goggle case. This protects against scratches on the lenses and prevents sharp objects from damaging the straps.
