Exploring underwater life is a healthy and fun activity. But to get the best experience, you need a good pair of diving goggles to see anything at all. And if you already wear glasses, finding the right pair isn’t always straightforward.

Fortunately, you can now get prescription diving goggles. And that’s exactly what I’ll be covering in this guide. What options are out there? Which prescription goggles are the best for adults and children? And where can you buy them?
I’ll give you the answers in this guide, where I’ll cover these specific topics:
At the end of the day, my goal is to set you up well so you can choose the perfect pair of prescription diving goggles for you.
For years, the best diving experience was reserved only for people with good eyesight. It was practically impossible to enjoy a proper dive if you wore glasses. There simply wasn’t enough room inside diving goggles to wear your everyday glasses underneath.

However, a pair of prescription diving goggles is the solution when you want to dive as a glasses wearer. They let you see everything around you, both near and far. Just like when you wear your glasses out of the water.
And that’s why prescription diving goggles make your life with glasses so much easier.
If you wear glasses and want a pair of prescription diving goggles, there are a few things you should keep in mind before you buy. It’s really important that your diving goggles have good features so you get the best possible experience.
And you’ll get the best features if you consider the points below before buying.
To ensure your prescription diving goggles fit properly and stay in place, a good head strap is essential. It should be adjustable, durable, and ideally split into two straps at the back.
When it’s adjustable, you can get your diving goggles to fit your face perfectly. When it’s durable, it won’t snap when you put it on. And it’s definitely a bonus if the strap splits in two behind your head, as this gives you a much better fit.
It might not seem like the most crucial feature in the world, but you’ll still get the best underwater experience if your goggles are treated with anti-fog. There’s no point in buying prescription goggles to see clearly, only to have them fog up the moment you hit the water so you can’t see anything anyway.
Anti-fog treated prescription diving goggles simply give you the best experience. And they ensure you can always see what’s going on underwater.
Price isn’t really a feature as such. But when it comes to prescription diving goggles, price, quality, and features always go hand in hand. You can easily go for the cheapest pair of prescription diving goggles, but chances are you won’t get the best experience.
The really cheap models often have a poor head strap and lenses that aren’t anti-fog treated. They also tend to let water in more easily.
When you invest in higher-end prescription diving goggles, you get a pair made by manufacturers who specialise in products for glasses wearers. That way, you’re guaranteed the exact right prescription, as well as top-quality fit and materials.
And that simply gives you the best underwater experience.
Generally speaking, there are two different types of prescription dive masks: pre-assembled models and customisable models where you assemble the frame and lenses yourself.
Below, I’ll explain which brands make what, along with the pros and cons of both types.
Pre-assembled models are just like standard dive masks. The lenses are already fitted when you buy them, so you simply choose the strength you need and they’re ready to use.
The brands that make pre-assembled prescription dive masks are Primotec, Eyeline and Speedo. All of them are top-quality brands.

If you’d rather put together the frame and lenses yourself, Aqua Sphere lets you do just that. With this type, you buy the frame and the two lenses separately, allowing you to choose the exact strength you need for each eye.
For example, you can choose this dive mask and these prescription lenses.
Choosing the right lens strength is essential for seeing clearly underwater, and the lens colour is just as important. You’ll want to pick the colour that best suits the conditions you’re diving in.
Here’s a breakdown of which colours work best for different conditions:
Completely clear lenses are best for low-light conditions. And once you get a couple of metres below the surface, there isn’t much light around.

That’s why clear lenses are preferable if you’re diving a couple of metres below the surface. Or even deeper.
Smoke lenses give you darker vision, but in return, they protect your eyes in bright conditions. These lenses will be too dark for deeper dives.

However, if you’re just planning to dive around near the surface, smoke lenses can be your best bet.
Blue lenses are especially good at cutting out harsh glare. For example, from sunrays reflecting off the water’s surface. They don’t give you the same dark vision as smoke lenses, though, so they don’t protect your eyes in quite the same way.

That makes blue lenses ideal if you alternate between diving relatively deep and staying near the surface, where strong glare can bounce off the water.
Hopefully, you no longer have any doubts about why prescription diving masks are great for glasses wearers. So now it’s time to introduce you to the prescription masks I recommend most.
The models in this section are for adults (the next section covers models for kids). I’ve split them into these categories so you can pick the right one depending on whether you’re short-sighted or long-sighted:
If you’re short-sighted and need a pair of prescription goggles, you should definitely go for the Eyeline Optique for short-sighted adults. Even though they come ready-assembled, you can choose different strengths for the right and left lenses. And that alone gives them a clear advantage.
At the same time, they sit really comfortably on your head thanks to the strap and the soft silicone skirt between the frame and your face. The nose bridge is adjustable too, so you can get the goggles to fit your face perfectly.
Since the lenses have an anti-fog coating, they won’t fog up. They also feature a UV filter that shields your eyes from the sun, and you can choose between clear, smoke or blue lenses.
This is hands down my top favourite when it comes to prescription goggles for short-sighted adults!
If you want to look sporty when you swim with your prescription goggles, you won’t find better than a pair of Watery Superior Optique Lens. In terms of size, they’re identical to Watery’s fastest swimming goggles, keeping water resistance to a minimum.
With its interchangeable nose piece, you can adjust the width of the goggles to match your face. And because they sit securely inside the eye sockets, you can be sure they’ll never let in water. The strap also helps with this, thanks to its elasticity and design.
On the other hand, they can be a bit uncomfortable to wear for more than half an hour at a time. Simply because they sit right inside the eye sockets, where they create a vacuum seal.
A small drawback with the Watery Superior Optique Lens is that you can’t choose different dioptres for each lens. However, they are available in a fairly wide range, from -2.0 to -8.0.
If you’re far-sighted, the best choice you can make is a pair of Primotec Optique for far-sighted adults. Here, you get to choose exactly which strength you want in both the right and left lens. And you receive them completely ready to use.
In terms of comfort, they’re also fantastic. They have a frame that sits around the eyes, making them very comfortable to wear for long periods. And since the silicone skirt between the frame and your face is lovely and soft, it’s comfortable while creating a watertight seal so no water gets in.
The strap also keeps the goggles securely in place on your head. On top of that, the lenses are both anti-fog treated and feature a UV filter, giving you maximum safety and comfort.
Strengths can be chosen from +1.0 to +8.0, and as mentioned, they don’t have to be the same for both lenses.
That’s why Primotec Optique is my clear favourite and top recommendation when it comes to swimming goggles for far-sighted adults!
I’ve now given you my recommendations for the best prescription diving masks for adults. And as promised, I’ll now tell you about the models for kids that we rate as the best – based on functionality, fit, and user reviews.
The categories we have evaluated are:
If you’re looking for a pair of diving goggles for your short-sighted child, you should go for these Primotec Optique diving goggles for short-sighted kids. Here you get a mask that’s completely identical to the larger version for adults. This one just fits children’s faces instead (from 3 to 12 years).
This means you can choose different strengths for each lens, which are also anti-fog treated and UV-protective. The strap ensures that the goggles stay securely in place on the head. Plus, the nose piece is adjustable so you can adjust the distance between the lenses.
And the soft silicone skirt on the frame makes sure they sit comfortably against the skin and keep water out.
Add to that the option to choose strengths from -1.5 to -6.0, and you really have the best diving goggles for short-sighted kids.
If your child is farsighted, the best prescription goggles you can buy are the Primotec Optique for farsighted children. They’re just like the goggles for nearsighted children, only with plus lenses instead.
First and foremost, you can choose from lens powers ranging from +1.0 to +8.0. You can also pick different strengths for each lens, which is a massive advantage compared to other models on the market.
At the same time, you still get all the great features of the nearsighted model. The nose bridge is adjustable, and the head strap keeps the goggles securely in place. Plus, the soft silicone skirt around the frame keeps them completely watertight and super comfortable.
The lenses are also anti-fog treated and offer UV protection. You simply won’t find better goggles for farsighted children than the Primotec Optique.
As an added bonus, the frame comes in either blue or pink. So whether you’re buying for a boy or a girl, you can find the right colour.
The vast majority of prescription goggles are treated with anti-fog, especially models from top brands. However, the anti-fog coating gradually wears off as you use your goggles, and eventually, they’ll start to fog up.

Luckily, you can apply an anti-fog treatment yourself to make sure your lenses stay crystal clear.
All you need is a small bottle of anti-fog spray. Just give each lens two quick sprays, spread the liquid across the entire lens with gentle circular motions, and then rinse off any excess with clean water.
A single treatment lasts for about 10 uses before you need to reapply it. And since anti-fog spray is very affordable, it’s a great little investment.

Many people confuse swimming goggles with a diving mask. But they’re actually quite different, and that’s also true when it comes to prescription goggles compared to a prescription diving mask.

The big difference is that a prescription diving mask covers your nose. With a prescription diving mask, you don’t risk getting water up your nose. On top of that, a diving mask traditionally features larger lenses with a wider field of vision.
On the other hand, a diving mask is noticeably larger and bulkier. This creates more water resistance, while also feeling less natural to wear.
If you think a diving mask is the right choice for you, you can buy a prescription diving mask here.
You can buy standard swimming goggles in many places – even in general sports shops and some large supermarkets. But the same isn’t true for prescription goggles. For those, you’ll need to turn to specialist shops instead.
We recommend buying them from us at Watery, where you’ll find prescription goggles from some of the biggest and most renowned brands – and at a fair price too.
Our high Trustpilot score also proves that Watery is a safe and reliable place to shop. That’s why we believe Watery is the obvious choice when you’re looking to buy prescription goggles.
